October 2012
Dear Neighbors,
I hope this letter finds you
and your family is doing well.
As you may have noticed,
there has been a lot of police presence monitoring traffic at the front of the
neighborhood. At the last Board meeting
we had another discussion about resident safety and speeding traffic through
the neighborhood. We have arranged for a
Town Hall meeting with Griff Chalfant (our city councilman), the Marietta
Police Commander for Lee’s Crossing and the Marietta City Engineer on October
9, at 7:00 PM at the Clubhouse. We
invite you to attend this meeting for a discussion about this situation and
what might be done to reduce speeding in the neighborhood. Speeders are not only from inside the
neighborhood, but from outside where they are beyond the reach of any
communication the Board can provide.
After this Town Hall meeting
was arranged, I hate to report that there was a single car accident on Sep 26th
coming down the hill at the stop sign on Lee’s Trace and Chestnut Hill
Circle. A young man lost control of his
vehicle, crossed over two front yards and crashed into a tree. It was reported to me that the young man was
shaken up pretty badly with possible broken ribs. I have not heard any more about who the young
man is or his condition, but we hope his injuries are not to serious. The car
was heavily damaged if not totaled.
There are young boys that play in the front yard of this home, and luckily
they were not out there the day of the accident.
This kind of accident is what
we have been hoping to prevent with the warnings in the newsletter. We know
that the messages are not getting to everyone, but we hope people are
discussing this with neighbors. I know
many residents along Lee’s Trace and Trailwood are talking because of their
communications back to the Board. These
residents are witness to endless speeding in front of their homes. I hope we have a good turnout for the Town
Hall meeting and have a constructive discussion about what options we have to
resolve this problem.
On another note, I want to
share with you what happened with the lightning strike we had back in August
that took out a tree by the clubhouse and damaged the well pump, sprinkler
controls and wiring to a bank of tennis court lights. One of our life guards was close to the
strike and was knocked down but not injured.
The strike was from a storm with infrequent lighting and not overhead. Even though the pool is closed for the
season, keep this in mind for next season when the lifeguards have swimmers get
out of the pool even if lighting/thunder seems far
off. All of the damage has been repaired, including replacing the tree. Our
claim with the insurance company has covered this expense with the exception of
our deductible.
Don’t hesitate to contact me
or any Board member for concerns or questions.
You can also send a note to Leescrossing@comcast.net
for questions you may have.

Hunting and Firearms in Georgia
Did you know that to hunt unsupervised in Georgia you must have passed the Georgia Hunter Safety course, which is required to buy a license? That course, taught by state-certified instructors, will be offered free, at our Clubhouse, in August and October of this year.
Stressing firearm safety, this highly successful course will be offered as a two-night session taught by instructors, and a one-night session preceded by the student completing an on-line course. Both types include the Final Exam, proctored by the Instructors. No functional firearms will be present, and the course is an excellent Firearms Safety course, whether you ever intend to hunt or not.
You must pre-register – The class, which is open to all, has limited seating. Go on the Internet to: http://georgiawildlife.dnr.state.ga.us for details and free registration. The student will be asked for their SSAN, to be entered in the State’s secure database. If further details are desired, contact Ken Lowman at 770-426-8255.
