Monthly Newsletter

                                                                                               November   2012

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are enjoying the fall weather.  The fall colors are really coming out now in the neighborhood.

The town hall meeting with Griff Chalfant, the City Engineer and the Marietta Police Commander for our zone was well attended.  The Board was very happy to see the large turnout and interest on the speeding issue we have.  We greatly appreciate the questions and discussions held during the meeting.   From the information received from Griff, there are many neighborhoods with the same issue.   Possible solutions discussed were to have police in the neighborhood every day at random times writing tickets, which takes resources away from crime management.  Placing digital signs indicating speed of approaching vehicles is an option, but according to the city Engineer provides little benefit.  Installing rumble bumps in locations that would make noise when crossed which would be a problem for the neighbors where they would be installed.  The 25mph speed tables which we have previously perused were discussed as well.

Under current city requirements for installing the speed tables there must be evidence that the average speed in the trouble areas is 10mph over the speed limit.  From the monitoring MPD performed for 5 days prior to the meeting, the average speed was reported to be 32 mph.  You may ask why Lee’s Crossing doesn’t just install the speed tables.  The streets are not owned by Lee’s Crossing so the city would have to approve such action, which at this point they are not ready to do.  Griff is working with the City Council to change the speed table requirements so that more streets can qualify.

The bottom line is there is no simple solution that will not cause other problems.  It really comes down to people doing the right thing by driving within the speed limits and respecting the safety of all our residents.

November is the month for nominations for the Board of Directors.  I want to encourage those that would like to be involved in our community to consider having a neighbor put in nomination for you.  All persons nominated that meet the qualifications listed on the next page will be on the ballot sent out with the 2013 HOA assessments.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any Board member for concerns or questions.  You can also send a note to Leescrossing@comcast.net for questions you may have.

Nominations for the Board of Directors

Individual resident homeowners who are in good standing with the Association and who consent to serve as a Director or Treasurer may have their names submitted to the nominating committee for inclusion on the ballot. Nominees must be current on all assessments, must pay their 2013 assessments by the close of balloting on February 17, 2012, and must not be subject to any unsatisfied Association fines or liens.

The nominating committee consists of Jim Martin, Errol Eckford and Brad Herr.  Nominations must be in writing and must be received by the committee on or before November 21, 2012. Nominations must be mailed to the attention of the nominating committee at P.O. Box 1013, Marietta, GA 30061.

Business Spotlight:

I Recommend:

Bill Dickman would like to recommend the BP Gas Station on Whitlock Ave. for tires! Yes Tires! I’ve been using their services since 1987 and always was pleased, but never thought of them as a tire store. That changed forever, as Roy Hester (owner) quoted me a price on four national brand tires for our car. His price was lower than Discount Tires price, and even others I checked on the internet! We just completed a 1200 mile trip; these tires are great!  Also Gary, who runs their Service Center, is the best mechanic I’ve ever known. Call 770-425-9304.

Bill Dickman also recommends Red’s Old Fashioned Detail & Repair Shop, located directly behind the earlier mentioned BP Station. I have used all of their services, from complete detailing, car waxing to simple outside car wash ($12.00). They are fantastic and more than competitively priced. All services are done by hand. Their “Car Finish” knowledge is incredible! They take great time to explain what their products and services actually accomplish! Call Andy and Red (Owners) at 770-514-0436.
