From the President

Hello Neighbors!  I hope this letter finds everyone doing well and enjoying a beautiful spring.

Just a couple of quick reminders.  First, school will be out for the summer in a few weeks.  Please remember to use extra caution when driving through the neighborhood because children will be everywhere.  Second, the pool will open on Saturday May 23.  We look forward to seeing everyone down at the pool to enjoy games, ice cold beverages and Phil Wooten’s famous barbeque!

Have a great May and, as always, if you should ever have any comments or concerns please do not hesitate to call me.  My home phone number is (770) 420-3484.  Take care, and I will see you around the neighborhood!

Sincerely,

Jim Martin

Lee’s Crossing Cyclones Swim Team

Registration for the 2009 Lee’s Crossing Cyclones Swim Team has been huge success.  We have lots of returning swimmers along with a fair number of new participants.  I have been contacted by several others about possibly joining and I would encourage you to do so soon.  We currently have openings in all age groups, but some are filling up.

Practices will start in mid-May*.  The schedule for those first two weeks is as follows:

M/W 4:30-5:00 – 6 & under’s              T/Th 4:30-5:00 9&10’s

         5:00-5:30 – 7 & 8’s                                         5:00-5:30 11 & up’s

* Specific start day information will be sent out via email to team members.

Our meets will be held on Thursday nights this year.  We will be at home on June 4th and 18th – for those of you not participating this means the pool will close early these days, but if you have never seen the team in action feel free to stop by and check us out!

If you have questions or would like a registration package please contact me @ sdherr@comcast.net or call Susan @ 770-499-9354.

The annual neighborhood yard sale will be on Saturday, May 9th, from 8am to 1pm. Ads will be placed in the Marietta and Atlanta papers. Signs on Whitlock Avenue will also be put out directing people to Lee's Crossing. Each home having a sale may put out their own signs, but please take them down after the sale. In past years, residents of Lee's Crossing have had a preview of the sales the night before. Good luck to everyone who participates!

Reading Adventures

Summer reading groups are being offered for rising 1st and 2nd graders through Reading Adventures.  Reading Adventures is a program designed to encourage enthusiasm for reading by incorporating a relevant experience into each reading lesson.  This experience will be the springboard for the reading of children’s literature and the teaching of specific skills.  Skills in the areas of phonics, sight word recognition, comprehension, fluency and writing will be taught in a guided reading, group setting.

I live in Lee’s Crossing and am a certified elementary school teacher with experience as a reading specialist.  I am offering 2 sessions of Reading Adventures.  Classes will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday over the course of 2 weeks, for a total of 6 classes per session.  Classes will last from 9:30 – 11:30am each day.

The cost per 6 day session is $120.00.  Sessions are limited to 5 students.

Session 1:

For rising 1st graders  - June 9 - 11 and June 16 – 18.

Session 2:

For rising 2nd graders:  June 23 – 25 and June 30 – July 2

If you are interested in learning more or have questions about this program, please contact me.

Guys – Are there any cheap, early rising golfers out there?

Are you interested in walking 9 holes early on Saturday mornings in May?  American Golf Corporation owns a variety of courses, including Bobby Jones and North Fulton.  They have a promotion called the Atlanta Golfers Club, which costs $29.95.  (You sign up in the pro shop the first time you want to play - expires 3/31/10).  The Club has several perks, but the best one is the early bird 9-hole rate.  They send you off the back side during the first 1.5 hours of daylight for $17.  For more information about the Club, see http://www.americangolf.com/membership/atlanta/

So, come on out and golf, laugh, get some exercise and meet some neighbors!  Some details:

  • Come once or come every week

  • No tee time required – just show up if you feel like it.  We will meet at sunrise at Bobby Jones on May 2 and 9, and at North Fulton on May 16, 23 and 30 (see weather.com for sunrise time).

  • Since we are walking 9 holes, you will be done early and have the rest of the day.  (Your wife will notice your improved attitude and encourage you to go again the next week!)

  • Form your own group or we will just combine whoever shows up.  I did this a few times last year by myself and it was not crowded.

Although not necessary to play, if you will send an email to Don Filer at dfiler@innovative-outsourcing.com, I’ll send out email blasts reminding everyone interested where we will be playing (and letting you know if I am not going to make it for any reason).  Also, shoot me an email if you have any questions.  Hope to see you bright and early!

Be sure to book the clubhouse early for any events you are planning!  Call Melissa Hinchman at 404-839-1211.
