Lee’s Crossing
Monthly
Newsletter June 2009
Hello Neighbors!
I hope that
everyone is having a great start to their summer vacation! The Board would like to send out a huge THANK
YOU to Phil Wooten, Betty Foley and all of their many helpers for making this
year’s pool opening party a tremendous success.
You folks are awesome!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank
David Geiger for getting the banner printed up with the names of all of our
graduates on it. I have had many people
comment on how nice it looked. Thanks
again David and congratulations seniors!
Please continue to be aware of the increased number of
kids around the neighborhood due to school being out. Let’s all do our part to set a good example
for our children and drive safely.
As always, if you should have any comments or
concerns, please do not hesitate to call me.
My home phone number is (770) 420-3484.
Take care, and I will see you around the neighborhood!
Sincerely,
Jim Martin

Neighborhood Swim Team
Reminder to all residents:
The swim team will be holding meets at our neighborhood pool on both June 4th and June 18th. The pool will close at 4pm on these days in order for us to set up for the meet. The meet begins at 6pm. You are welcome to stop by and see our team in action.
In addition, we will be holding our End-of-Season Party on Monday June 29th. The pool will close at 5pm to accommodate this event.
We have 112 swimmers this season ranging in age from 5 to 18 years in age. Although the weather has not helped in warming up the pool water for our swimmers, we have had great practice sessions and all our swimmers are improving. We are looking forward to a great season.
Reading Adventures
Summer reading groups are being offered for rising 1st and 2nd graders through Reading Adventures. Reading Adventures is a program designed to encourage enthusiasm for reading by incorporating a relevant experience into each reading lesson. This experience will be the springboard for the reading of children’s literature and the teaching of specific skills. Skills in the areas of phonics, sight word recognition, comprehension, fluency and writing will be taught in a guided reading, group setting.
I live in Lee’s Crossing and am a certified elementary school teacher with experience as a reading specialist. I am offering 2 sessions of Reading Adventures. Classes will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday over the course of 2 weeks, for a total of 6 classes per session. Classes will last from 9:30 – 11:30am each day.
The cost per 6 day session is $120.00. Sessions are limited to 5 students.
Session 1:
For rising 1st graders - June 9 - 11 and June 16 – 18.
Session 2:
For rising 2nd graders: June 23 – 25 and June 30 – July 2

Black’s storybook (PreK-2) is
an original tale of determination, bravery and unexpected friendship. The
author/illustrator has created a story, characters, activities, teacher tools
and a sing-along song to entertain and engage the most reluctant reader.
Black will also sign the PreK-3 book, To School, To School in the Big Yellow Bus, part of a comprehensive safety program she co-developed, as well as her co-authored nonfiction humor book WOOF: Women Only Over Fifty. The latter approaches the “joys” of expanding waistlines, empty nests and muddled memories with canine-themed humor.
