Lee’s Crossing

Monthly Newsletter                                                              June 2007

From the President…

Summer is here and it’s time to take a much deserved break from our normal routines.  So enjoy your break and relax.

Congratulations to our graduating high school and college seniors.    It makes me feel rather old as several of these graduates were in my 4 year old Sunday School class just a few years back.  I wish each a bright and successful future.

Memorial Day weekend brought the opening of our neighborhood pool.  A great time was had by all at the opening party on Saturday, with many enjoying the pool, great Famous Dave’s BBQ and fun music with a DJ.  I would like to extend s special thanks to Dave and Catherine Hettrich, who coordinated the party, along with help from Sandra Wilson and Janet Duncan.  If you would like to help with future social events, please contact Janet Duncan.

The pool is now open for our regular summer hours.  Please enjoy the pool and be respectful of the Pool Operating Guidelines presented in the May Newsletter or on our website.  Also, new locks have been installed at the tennis courts.  If you need the combination, please contact a Board member.

As the days have warmed and many enjoy the opportunity to walk the neighborhood, I have received several comments about trees and shrubs overhanging the sidewalk.  If you have a sidewalk on you property, please take a moment and inspect the trimming of any trees or shrubs near the sidewalk.  If this trimming is left to the City crews, it may not be to your liking.

Enjoy your summer!

As always, if you have questions or comments, please give me a call.

Ladies Summer Book Club

The ladies of First Baptist Church of Marietta are having a Summer Book Club at the Lee’s Crossing Clubhouse, and we would love for you to join us!  This is our second annual summer book club, and we had so much fun last year that we can’t wait to get started again.

This summer, we will be reading A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers, a collection of five novellas telling the stories of the women listed in the lineage of Jesus:  Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary.  These are fictionalized accounts based on the Biblical scriptures with a powerful message of grace throughout.  We will be meeting on four Tuesdays this summer (June 5th, June 26th, July 10th, and July 24th) at 7pm in the Lee’s Crossing clubhouse.  Our books have to be ordered from out of the country, so we have to order them by May 5th or so to get them back in time for our first meeting.  Childcare is available by reservation.  For more information or to register, please contact Karla Jacobs at 770-428-4739 or karlajacobs@aol.com.

Calling All Scrapbookers, Stampers and Crafters...

On the second Friday of each month, the Lee's Crossing Clubhouse will be open for you to come down and have some time to work on your favorite crafting past time.  Tables and chairs will be set up, all you need to bring are the items you need to work with and a snack and beverage.  You can also bring a friend!

Clubhouse will be open from 7pm until the last person leaves.

If you have any questions, please call Debbie Brown at 770-528-9094.

REMINDER - BOOK YOUR PARTIES EARLY.  CALL DEBBIE KELLEHER TO RENT THE CLUBHOUSE  678-354-7042.

Expanded State Watering Ban

The following is from the City of Marietta’s website:

Declared Drought Response Level Two

The city of Marietta is requesting residents and businesses observe water restrictions set by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources that ban outdoor water use from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturdays through Thursdays. No outdoor water use is permitted on Fridays. Outdoor water use is allowed during non-banned hours on scheduled days as follows:

Monday, Wednesday and Saturday: even numbered or unnumbered addresses may water from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. only.

Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday: odd numbered addresses may water from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. only.

Marietta Water will strictly enforce the restrictions. Warnings are issued for a first offense. Subsequent offenses result in escalating fines for each offense up to $500, water service disconnection and prosecution.

For more information, call 770-794-5229.

Newsletter by E-Mail

Quite a few of us have signed up to receive the newsletter via e-mail.  If you haven’t done so, please consider a few advantages.  Getting the newsletter via e-mail not only saves money for the HOA, but also saves paper.  You will also get the e-mail version earlier than the paper version (depending on editor/stringer schedules, maybe several days earlier).  Having a mostly e-mail distribution allows a later cut-off date for articles and also allows events the first couple of days of the month to be included in the current newsletter.  Please consider signing up for e-mail delivery.  Send your request to leescrossing@comcast.net.

For those of you who are already signed up for e-mail distribution – if your e-mail address changes, please make sure to notify us!

I Recommend……

This is your opportunity to recommend a business to your neighbors.  If you know of someone that does a good job, please send us a SHORT testimonial that we can share.

Pat Quigley at 540 Trailwood Lane would like to recommend Bill Dickman (404-992-2610) and Crowe Custom Countertops.  Bill was extremely professional and helpful.  The team from Crowe arrived on time to remove my original countertop and, more importantly, arrived on time for the installation.  Throughout the process Bill was in contact with me.  In addition, Bill also arranged for Allen Sawyer, owner of ASAP Plumbing, (404-227-4441), to reconnect my stove and install the new kitchen faucet.  Allen also arrived on time and was very professional.  The entire process was professional with a definite personal interest on the part of Bill.  If you are thinking about updating your kitchen counters, I would definitely recommend Bill and Crowe Custom Countertops as well as Allen Sawyer with ASAP Plumbing.

The Garnto and Nixon Families recommend Carlos and Shirlene to you for house cleaning.  After many months of using them to clean our homes, they have been found to be very thorough while cleaning and are careful with our belongings.  Also, they are reasonable with their prices, and they speak English. Their telephone numbers are 770-579-8529 or 678-294-3332.

From Karl Wagner at 595 Briarmeade -  Many of us have garage door springs that are about the same age.  A neighbor had one fail recently and mine did soon after. I was lucky to find Expert Garage Door, Inc at (678) 886-0769.  Jayson Conway was very prompt and was reasonably priced.  He also offered simple "do it yourself" suggestions that can help extend the life of your garage door.  Two of the basics were:

1. Every 6 months, lubricate the hinges, roller wheels and stems, and torsion springs or pulleys.

2. Every 6 months, tighten all screws and nuts on the hinges, handles, locks.

Of course he does offer this "tune-up" service if you'd like an expert to do it.

Becky Jordan (and Lily-Kate) recommends Mud Creek Ranch on Villa Rica Road for both horseback riding lessons and Summer Camp!  Lead Trainer, Cheryl Guthrie, brings excellent skill and a heavy emphasis on safety.  All horses are well cared for and lessons are offered in both private and small group settings (no more than three students).  Barn is close, easily

accessible and operated by Marietta native Butch Thompson.  Contact Cheryl for more information about lessons and summer camp in both June and July!
